A veneer is a thin shell — typically 0.3 to 0.5mm — bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its shape, colour, length, or alignment. Veneers or crowns — which do you actually need?
This is the most important honest conversation we have with cosmetic patients. A veneer covers only the front of a healthy tooth with minimal reduction. A crown covers the whole tooth and needs more preparation — appropriate for damaged, cracked, or root-canal-treated teeth, but over-treatment for a healthy tooth that only needs a cosmetic upgrade.
