Ministry of Health licensing

All dental clinics operating in Turkey must hold a current operating licence from the Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Sağlık Bakanlığı (Turkish Ministry of Health). This is non-negotiable. The licence specifies the scope of treatments the clinic can perform and is renewed periodically.

Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate (Sağlık Turizmi Yetki Belgesi)

For clinics treating international patients specifically, an additional certification — the Sağlık Turizmi Yetki Belgesi — is required. This is issued by the Ministry of Health and confirms the clinic meets standards for international patient care, language support, accreditation, and follow-up protocols.

Turkish Dental Association (TDB)

Individual dentists in Turkey must be registered with the Türk Diş Hekimleri Birliği (Turkish Dental Association). The TDB maintains a public registry of licensed practitioners. You can verify any Turkish dentist’s registration through the TDB.

Some Turkish clinics also hold international accreditations such as JCI (Joint Commission International) or ISO certifications. These are not legal requirements but indicate adherence to international healthcare standards. Note that JCI is more common for hospitals than for outpatient dental clinics, so absence of JCI in a small dental clinic is not necessarily a red flag.

How to verify a clinic before booking — the 7-point checklist

This is the practical version. Apply it to any clinic you are considering, in Turkey or elsewhere.

1. Verify the operating licence

Ask for a photo or scan of the Ministry of Health operating licence. Verify it is current. Compare the clinic name and address on the licence to the address you’ll be visiting.

2. Verify the dentists’ individual registration

Ask for the full names and registration numbers of the dentists who will treat you. Look them up on the Turkish Dental Association registry. Confirm their specialty and years of experience match what is advertised.

3. Confirm the implant brand and prosthetic materials in writing

Before booking, get the specific implant brand, model, and prosthetic material in writing. “Premium European implants” is not a sufficient answer. The exact brand and lot numbers should appear in your treatment file after surgery. Internationally recognised implant systems are well-documented; if a brand seems unfamiliar, look it up.

4. Get warranty terms in writing — before booking

A good warranty:

• Specifies what is covered (implant fixture, abutment, prosthesis) and for how long

“Lifetime guarantee” without written terms is marketing, not a warranty.

5. Read recent, specific reviews

Google Business Profile reviews are typically most informative. Look for recent (last 6–12 months), detailed reviews mentioning specific treatments, dentist names, and process detail. Diversity of reviewer countries and treatment types is a good sign. Be cautious of clinics with hundreds of identical 5-star reviews posted in clusters — this can indicate review manipulation.

6. Ask the awkward question: who actually does my surgery?

7. Confirm the post-treatment plan in writing

Before you book, ask for the written aftercare plan. It should include:

• Schedule of remote follow-up consultations
• What to do if you have a complication after returning home
• How records (scans, surgery notes, brand details) are shared with you and any local dentist
• Whether the clinic coordinates directly with a local dentist if you need an in-person intervention

If a clinic cannot articulate the aftercare plan clearly before treatment, that is a meaningful signal.
